Medical-grade titanium
The only material we will recommend for a piercing that is still healing. It does not react with the tissue trying to close around it, which is why it is the one thing this site will show you while a piercing is settling.
There is a distinction worth understanding, because suppliers blur it constantly. Grade 23, or Ti-6Al-4V ELI, names the alloy. ASTM F136 is the specification for that alloy in surgical implant use — it carries defined chemical limits and a testing regime that general industrial stock does not have to meet.
Same alloy family. Different assurance. A supplier saying “G23” is describing metal; a supplier producing a mill certificate referencing ASTM F136 is evidencing the specification. We buy on the certificate.
Which is exactly why this page does not yet put a specification number against what we sell. We will publish it, in full, the day we can show you the paperwork behind it. Until then we say medical-grade titanium and stop there. A number nobody can evidence is worth no more than “it is surgical steel”, and we would rather tell you less and have it be true.
PVD colour
Gold, rose and black titanium are the same metal with a colour layer bonded to the surface by physical vapour deposition. It is not plating and it does not flake — it wears, slowly, over years.
925 sterling silver
For fully healed piercings only. Sterling oxidises in contact with body fluid, and in a healing piercing that can stain the tissue permanently. It also tarnishes with air and moisture, which is normal and polishes out.
14k gold-filled
For fully healed piercings only. A substantial layer of 14k gold mechanically bonded to a base metal core — far more durable than plating, but the core is exposed at the ends, which is why it is not for healing tissue.
Why we are strict about this
The site will not show you silver or gold-filled if you tell it your piercing is still healing. That is enforced in the code, not left to a warning you might skip. It is the reason to shop here rather than somewhere that sells you whatever you click on.
